    Poets' Voices is a radio show of conversations with writers in, around, and passing through the Peoria, Illinois area. Jim Sullivan, host of the show, teaches English at Illinois Central College. The show is broadcast at 2:00 on Wednesday afternoons and repeated 8:30 Saturday morning on WAZU, 90.7 FM, East Peoria, Illlinois. The station is a community radio station broadcasting from Illinois Central College. My thanks especially to Louis Linder, Jeremy Styninger, and Gary Hale for helping me put the show together.

Pamela Sydney, children’s book writer

I talked with Pam Sydney about her children's book Mikey the Chicken Turtle, about how she wrote the book and the reactions she has gotten from children who have seen it and heard her read it.  On Nov. 7, 2011, we sat in the beautifully appointed Glenn Allen Room at Ayer Public Library in Delavan, where she works.

Mary Ruth Lowry is Director of Ayer Public Library, an old Carnegie library in Delavan, a small town in Central Illinois.  On Nov. 2, 2011, we talked about the role of the library in a small town, the many types of cultural service it provides, and what she enjoys about the job there.

Paula Ahles on Children’s Poetry

Paula Ahles, a professor of Psychology and of Education at Illinois Central College shared with me some poems she'd found recently that she wrote when she was a child.  We used this as a jumping off point for a conversation about children's writing and children's literature.  We spoke in her office at ICC in Oct. 2011.

Mark Liebenow, poet and nonfiction writer

Mark Liebenow graciously stopped by to talk with me about his poetry and his nonfiction.  His poetry has appeared in several publications.  We also talked about two of his prose projects: his book about Yosemite, Mountains of Light, which will be published in 2012, and his current writing project, a book about grief.  The recording was made on Oct. 18, 2011.
