  • Poets' Voices

    Poets' Voices is a radio show of conversations with writers in, around, and passing through the Peoria, Illinois area. Jim Sullivan, host of the show, teaches English at Illinois Central College. The show is broadcast at 2:00 on Wednesday afternoons and repeated 8:30 Saturday morning on WAZU, 90.7 FM, East Peoria, Illlinois. The station is a community radio station broadcasting from Illinois Central College. My thanks especially to Louis Linder, Jeremy Styninger, and Gary Hale for helping me put the show together.

Cathy Gilbert–poet

Poet Cathie Gilbert's great grandfather was among the first paleontologists to dig fossils out of the La Brea Tar Pits in California. She is working on a collection of poems not only about digging up bones, but also about digging into family history.  We spoke in her office at Heartland Community College in Normal, where she let me hold an actual saber tooth tiger's tooth from her family's own fossil collection.

Jennifer Cherry talked with me about fiction writing.  She has been working on two projects, one a collection of interconnected short stories set in a small town in Illinois, the other a young adult science fiction novel she has been working on with her son.  We spoke in her office at Heartland Community College in Normal.
